Congratulations to Harry Unruh who not only bought this car brand new in 1969 has returned to an opportunity to own it again.
Saturday Aug 15 2009 Harry took delivery of his Eliminator for the second time in 40 years.
40 Years ago Harry drove this same car (almost) off the lot.
40 years and two weeks later Harry will again take delivery if a fine automobile, a piece of our history.
Harry had thought the cat was long gone for good reason.
A young Native boy totaled the car after Harry sold it in 1974 due to speeding violations and a new family.
What a magnificent outcome for Harry!
351 Cougar Eliminator
This Genuine pedigreed Eliminator is a lot of fun to drive.
TESTDRIVE with me as I bring my Eliminator home the first time some ten years ago.
And a much more recent film shot to preview the car in its present condition.
FMX 3.25 9" Screeches into second and chirps into 3rd But lets test that theory shall we?
The non blue blowing 351W with really low miles is super clean inside.
I replaced the silent system timing chain out for a TRUE roller.
This Eliminator handles better than any of my other Cougars in the respect that the suspension is original and really holds the road better.
Stiffer springs like these Eliminators had shoulda been standard equipment imo.
The brake pedal is high and hard.
There is a jingle from one of the wraps for rear leafs sliding down but every cat needs a bell... and this Cat also has an alarm system though I never use it.
There are some rust bubbles in door bottom and wheel arch showing on this ten year old paint job.
There is a door skin included as well as rain gutter trim, rear window trim, a set of rear taillights re-chromed ready to bolt on and a few small bits.
Here's a couple pics of it the day I got it off the farm.
Check out the bottom of the 1/4s.
Starter alt carb all have been reworked.
The alt is correct case and fan coupled to an analog voltage regulator as they had in the day.
The 450 carb they came with originally has been upgraded to a factory Ford 4300 600cfm.
Choke works as it should.
New silent dual exhaust make this car whisper quiet.
Forgive and forget the dust pollen and dirt, it washed right off. Pic is of two cracks on nose of hood.
So, yah it needs a paint job.
That's why I want higher teens for this completely operable drive anywhere anytime time machine and not 30K.
Travel back in time, revisit your youth.
Or the Racing era.
Whatever you do Eliminator will draw admiration and respect as every passer-by has a tale to tell.
This car is a seven in its present condition.
The driving experience is like no other Cougar with its attention grabbing paint scheme and graphics atop the fine tuned suspension and driveline package Eliminators received.
This IS a pedigreed Cat as verified by Marti Auto Works.
Originally sold in Vancouver the Cougar has been on Vancouver Island I estimate 30 years based on I've had it ten years the guy (Ed Shaurte) I got it from had it stored for ten years after he found it "too fast" and he got it from some school buddy (Scott Peron?) if memory serves who had had it for a while.
The first years and original owner/s are unknown to me at this time.
I have no way of telling if its 64K or 164K on the odometer but this Cat is not loose other than the rear tyres often get loose if one gets liberal with the Go! pedal.
Pedals do not appear to be terribly worn and the original seat upolstery is still pretty good.
Who knows, maybe I will have to take $15K but for now I'm holding out for slightly better.
While this Cat is no absolutely mint creme puff it is an excellent as is driver and while there are bubbles the 1/4s are very good showing no signs of distress behind the rear wheels.
Just a bit in the arch none of which you can see from the drivers seat which is where you'll be if you own this car.
Drivin' it!

UPDATE April 14 08
I have found that the Eliminator now needs paint.
There is an area on passenger side where the paint behind the side window is lifting.
About the size of a pumpkin.
Thats to be expected I suppose on a ten year old paint job.
Therefore I am reducing the price to the first $18,500 to hit my desk.
Great driver as is.
351 cars are going to be more popular with gas at the price it commands.
1969 351 Eliminator
Here where I live to get collectors status on the classic cars the cars
must be bone stock down to AM radio and yellow top coil. While I never
applied for collectors status this one would meet criteria and my focus was
the multi car classic plate so this and all my Cougars are bone stock.
Low mile original Ford 351W 4V 4300 3.25 all stock down to points and the
yellow top coil all original/genuine Ford issued. True roller chain has
replaced the nylon silent type however the engine was under a bench for 25
years when I found it in the late 90's. Runs excellent. Squeals easily off line
and strips into second and a nice chirp into 3rd you'd normally hear from second
gear Ws of the day. Last night when tromping the go pedal spun a bit on the
downshift and kicks sideways a bit. This car while it handles the best has
the least amount of traction of all my 6 Cats I can drive ;-)
Missing is the frt air dam/spoiler. If there's a good used or cheapro I
might be buying, let me know.
There's a bag of receipts I didn't even tally and the car has several
pieces of new chrome and trim done. (All frt pieces except center of grille
and bumper)
BU lights and 1/4 trims were done. Gas door trims re-chromed. Good condition
trims were used rest of
places and the bumpers were not re-chromed. They could use it but never had $1000
to drop on two
bumpers for this car yet. It does however have the $1225US Gas Cap. Yes $1225US

UPDATE April 14 / 08
There is now a newly rechromed set of taillights in the trunk.
Not much point puttin' 'em on with orange peeling paint.
Entire grille and taillights now rechromed as well as BU lights a $2000 bill.
The interior sports a console is black and all stock with exception of
the drivers seat has cloth rather than vinyl comfortweave. The cloth looks
like comfortweave but its not. Less sweaty and not seen when driving. New
headliner and carpet. Floor mats. AM. Clean pkg tray (non stock) and good
sail panels (originals). Correct door panels etc all in good condition as is
dash complete and for the most part fully functional if we exclude the low
fuel light.
Steering wheel is rewoodgrained and a new clock lens.
Could use new seat uplostery now.
There was little rust in rear 1/4s behind wheels that was repaired using
pieces of my patch I make. Most of the lower outer is original. The drop
offs were replaced. See pics however the T boxes were repaired by a
"professional" shop to somewhat less than what I'd consider top quality
professional work but the car is solid and quiet (with quiet stock mufflers) and
there are no squeaks or rattles.
This car is comprised of many original unrestored original pieces as
well as many restored pieces.
The paint is 10ish years old now. Needs a bath and polishing and some detailing
as its been in storage. I have been driving it- ready for sale/travel. There is
nothing wrong with this car I know of that would not make a trip anywhere
anytime and I did drive this car regular.
I drive this car so its dirty and the floors etc are dirty in pix .
Paint is okay but has flaws some can not see but I can and the fussiest
of eyes will detect flaws in person not easily seen in pictures. There are a
couple bubbles on the drivers door and the drivers door jamb is not great
IMO. Drive as is or restore for high end showing. Slippery car to drive. Noisy
rear tires....
The Cat is not a #1 showcar. It is however an above average example of
a 69 Eliminator that is both showy and reliable getting attention everywhere it
goes .. If you don't like people asking you about your car then this car would
not be for you. Everyone wants to chat Cat when they see this one it seems.
Cat has an alarm I never use. I have a couple dash lights to replace and
I installed the new chromed grille. There was nothing "wrong" with the old
grille just that I had a rechromed one done up for it. That alone is $1000.
This car would serve for many years in its current configuration or
tear it all down and restore it again.

for this car which is not a mint 69 you'd want to trailer. This is a car to
enjoy however I consider it to be of average or better condition. The car is not
"mint" It is however good to very good condition. It is not excellent condition,
very good at best. I have driven approximately 10,000 miles on this and
owned it near ten years. The pic of the Blue Cougar is this car when I got it. I
drove less than 500 miles before "Raystoration"
Its not rusty and the floors and 1/4s are good. There was small holes behind rear wheels repaired many years ago (late 90s) and somewhere before I got it someone welded the Torque boxes.
OK I walked around the car. Took pics of Tbox dropoffs each wheel opening rear frt and back. Small hole pass side fwd.
Also pics of under hood where rust forms.
There are a few rust bubbles on bottom of drivers door. Very bottom middle area. biggest size of a dime. Car needs repaint.
All ECat specific pieces are there intact and good condition with exception of frt spoiler. I do not have an original and have not bought a repro so no frt spoiler $150ish US www.cascadeclassics.com
Seats are original and the pass side has a split. DS has had center replaced long time before I got it.
The car was not particularly rusty when I got it however it was in wrong color as well as wrong steering wheel and rims.. I made the car as original as I could and have maintained a stock theme throughout. You will notice an FM converter hanging down. That's mine and has been removed. There is an alarm system installed though I never use it.
Engine is a low mile original. Carb is the 4300 600cfm
FMX has a shift kit that sounds like a run over dog in second and a nice chirp into third. Handles very well. New quiet exhaust. No squeaks or rattles. Fast but not my fastest.
I can't think of any rust that needs addressing other than maybe the fwd small hole in wheelhouse fwd of pass rear tire.
New carpet headliner door rubbers window rubbers and felts.
Lots of chrome and trim was done however the frt and rear bumpers are good originals not replated by me. Frt end was done before I got it as were brakes and all are good and serviceable. The frt end was aligned a couple years back when I put the Firestones on. I have not put 10,000 miles on this car. Low fuel does not work. Has console. New clock lens. new 1/4 window chrome. five correct wheels.
More but that's all I can think of this moment. 3.25 non locking original rear diff w/new axle bearings. Engine is original Ford built not a rebuilt. Uses no oil. Water pump was org from 69 I had rebuilt. New fuel pump. PS PDB all work fine.
The cat is wet from rain so some that look like tiny/small rust bubbles are actually water drops.
